We had a private visit to Philae before it opened to the public, and just as the sun was coming over the horizon, one of our guides brought the news that Obama had won the Presidential election.

We visited Kom Ombo the afternoon after our first night on the cruise ship and realized just how many cruise ships were plying the Nile.

We got a private after-hours visit to Edfu, with Emil and Fathyi explaining it to us.

Luxor had much to offer us! Our first stop was shopping at Radwan; after the dawn visit to Karnak, Cindy and I visited the Luxor Museum and walked the Corniche. In the afternoon, when our luggage had left the cruise ship and gone to the Sonesta St. George, Nicki and Gloria primed us for a surprise: there weren't enough rooms at the inn, so special arrangements had been made (see Dahabia). Other notable Luxor outings included a visit to Al Fayed Palace for essential oil shopping and lunch at Maxim's restaurant.

We had a private dawn visit to Karnak, spending time with Sekhmet at the Temple of Ptah and in the great hypostyle hall.
